It’s Gonna Be Fine — A Song of Hope for Post-Pandemic Life

"It’s Gonna Be Fine" was created for the Citywide COVID-19 Emergency Response Program: Reimagine Public Art from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the Center for Cultural Innovation.

A Note from Gia

Making art with other people became downright dangerous during the last 15 months. For a collaborative artist such as myself, it was a painful and isolating time. Music has always been a source of self-soothing for me, so I knew I wanted to write a song of hope and joy for our city, our state, our nation, and the world. I also knew I wanted to record it in true quarantine style: using only what was available in my apartment. My wish is that this song can help carry us forward as California reopens and post-pandemic life begins. #GetVaccinated

Thank you to the Department of Cultural Affairs for the opportunity to create a public art response to the craziness of COVID-19 crisis, and thank you to my friend and producing partner Mr. Music himself Michael A. Simon for graciously directing this video.

It’s Gonna Be Fine

In the Before Times, life was hard enough
We all knew 2020 could get rough
Then I switch on the news
To see the world’s turned upside down
(What’s a pangolin?)

Now ooh, I’m doomscrolling
The numbers just keep piling high
Just mask up, keep six feet, and don’t cry
‘Cause it’s gonna be fine

It’s gonna be fine
Oh yeah, it’s gonna be fine
It’s gonna be fine
It’s gonna be fine

Been stuck inside these walls in sun and rain
Six months of quarantine — I’ve gone insane
So I hop on my bike
Go for ride at 3AM
(‘Cause what does time mean anymore anyway?)

Now ooh, yeah we’re rolling
The hours just keep zooming on by
The days, they slip away with a sigh
But it’s gonna be fine

It’s gonna be fine
Oh yeah, it’s gonna be fine
Yeah, it’s gonna be fine
It’s gonna be fine

Say goodbye to life as we know it
Say hello to heartache and rage
Welcome to this new kind of normal
Now let me out of this cage
Outta my cage

I cried so hard the day I got my shot
Not ‘cause it hurt but ‘cause it meant a lot
And the first thing I did was
Go back home to hug my mom
(I love you, Mom.)

Now ooh, let’s go bowling
Let’s catch a show, let’s go out and dance
Let’s celebrate and cheer, it’s our chance
To show it’s gonna be fine I

t’s gonna be fine
Oh yeah, it’s gonna be fine
Yeah, it’s gonna be fine
It’s gonna be fine

It’s gonna be fine
Oh yeah, it’s gonna be fine
Yeah, it’s gonna be fine
It’s gonna be fine
