kARTin' It

Brave souls, these boys are, driving a golf kart across America. But they've done it! And I got to go along for the ride.

Well, not really. They came to me. But I did get to see them on their journey. Check it out:

Staged Reading of THE LAST DAYS OF CLEOPATRA at Kennedy Center

Over Labor Day weekend, I’m working on a fantastic new project with Helen Hayes Award winning director Joe Calarco and composer Charlie Barnett. These fellows have indulged me by casting me as none other than Liz Taylor herself in a reading of their new musical, THE LAST DAYS OF CLEOPATRA at the Kennedy Center on Sunday, 31 August at 07.30P.

This new musical details the infamous love affair between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton on the set of the 60s film fiasco. The stuff that scripts are made of -- as Liz and Dick curse and caress their way into history.

Tickets are FREE and are first come, first serve. Our performance space is Millennium Stage South, and with only 250 seats available, your best bet is to arrive early. Apparently, we're a favored reading with a little blurb in yesterday's Washington Post (Style section, page C5).

Hope to see you there!

Ciao,
Liz

Only Three Performances Left!

By popular demand, four more performances were added to the scheduled run of THE IMAGINARY INVALID at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, DC! We are so grateful for the incredible houses we've had the past month and a half and will be sad to say goodbye to this show.

While Thursday's and Friday's shows sold out, tickets are still available for Saturday's performances at 02.00P and 08.00P. Use the friends and family discount code 5429 to receive 20% off your order. Purchase tickets online or via phone at 202.547.1122.

Hope to see you there!

Laughter is the Best Medicine

With 30 performances (perhaps 38 if we extend into August) left, The Imaginary Invalid at the Shakespeare Theatre Company continues to draw sold out crowds to the Landsburgh Theatre in downtown Washington, DC. Watch the trailer below!

We are elated to be sharing this rarely seen production, complete with the original opera, dance, and commedia dell'arte interludes that Louis XIV enjoyed during his reign as the Sun King.

Here's what the critics have had to say:

"I can’t say enough about the marvelous Gia Mora who sings and dances and possesses Lucille Ball-like comic timing.” -DC Theatre Scene

“Gia Mora is a complete delight as Argan’s eldest daughter Angelique.” -Potomac Stages

“Mora has an earnest, unfussy charm.” -Metro Weekly

“Gifted cast... Mora and Roach have fun with the impromptu, subtext-heavy opera.” -Washington Post

"Sumptuous, spectacular... The lovely Gia Mora [humanizes and] gets comedy mileage out of the ingenue role of the daughter Angelique." -Georgetowner.com

MEMENTOS Wins Best Acting and Audience Choice Award

I don't have many words for this beautiful 2008 DC 48 Hour Film Project--you'll just have to watch it. Mementos took home top acting honors at last week's screening in Silver Spring and will be included in the "Best of 2008" DVD distributed by the 48HFP.

What a thrill to watch all these films on the big screen at the incredible AFI theatre. The HD movies were especially gorgeous, and I hope more teams will opt for it next time round.

Congratulations to the cast--Joy Haynes, Ellen Young, and Ryan Mulkay--on their outstanding performances. We did it!
